Director of Department of Measurement Units, Standards and Services K. Premasiri Kumara stated that the use of plastic weighing scales in shops and supermarkets is banned and legal action will be taken against the individuals who utilize them.
He advised the consumers not to purchase goods measured using the particular scale.
The approved scales are available in the market and the shop owners are strictly advised to use them.
He further stated that it is a right of the consumer to check whether the items they purchase are of the correct weight.
