Prices of vehicles above 1000cc engine capacity and three-wheelers are expected to increase, the Vehicle Importers Association said. This increase takes place due to the Minimum Rate Tax increase which came into effect midnight yesterday. Accordingly, the tax on a Prius car would shoot up to Rs 7.2 million from Rs. 3.3 million. The tax on a X-Trail vehicle would go up to Rs 8 million.The tax on a three wheeler would be Rs 400,000. The tax on Maruti Suzuki Alto would increase from Rs 800,000 to Rs 1.2 million.
